Our Staff: May '04

My Name: Jan Hagman

My Title: Children's Librarian

What Do I Do? I am one of 3 Librarians who work in Children's Services. My job is to basically connect kids with books. I choose the children's books that appear on our shelves, provide storyhours for children ages 6 months to 5 years, and answer reference questions from our patrons.

How Long Have I Been At The Library? 17 1/2 years

My Favorite Part Of The Job? Definitely connecting children with books through individual contact or through the many stories I read in storyhour. I find learning to read an amazing event in children's lives and love to help them get there. I also enjoy promoting reading - it is such a valuable tool in all our lives and is often linked with success in school and in life in general.

What's My Favorite Book?  My favorite children's book is Owl Babies by Martin Waddel and my favorite adult book is The Red Tent by Anita Diamant.

What Do I Do When I'm Not At The Library? I enjoy family, gardening, decorating, sports and biking.

An Interesting Fact About Me: I still do not know my left from my right. I check my rings in order to distinguish. This does get a little tricky when I am doing the "Hokey-Pokey."
