My Name: Lisa Gadbois

My Title: Children's Librarian What is my job at the library? The great thing about my job (apart from working with 3 wonderful other children's librarians) is the variety of responsibilities I have. I design the Children's Room website, present a monthly "Passport" program to kids grades K and up, produce the monthly newsletter, "Storygarden News", choose the storyhour themes and design the crafts as well as do a nighttime storyhour, and book all the Children's Room performers and events.

How long have I worked at the library? 7 years

What is my favorite part of the job? I'm lucky because I get paid to do a job I love that combines 3 things I like the most - kids, books, and art! I actually have 2 favorite parts to my job. First, I love doing my "Passport" program which I've been doing for about 5 years now. Through it, I get to introduce kids to different cultures around the world through stories, food, crafts and song. It's great to be able to use my teaching skills outside of a traditional classroom and turn children on to a love of travel and books! Second, I thoroughly enjoy seeking out and booking cool and exciting performers to bring into the Children's Room and open kids up to the world of magic, puppetry, theatre and song!

What is my favorite book? My favorite book as a child was "James and the Giant Peach" and I loved anything written by Judy Blume! As an adult, I don't have one favorite book per se but the one that affected me the most was Nicholas Spark's, The Notebook.

What is my favorite movie? I'm more a movie buff than anything so it would be impossible to pick one favorite movie but several at the top of my list include: Romancing the Stone, The Way We Were, Barefoot in the Park, The Goodbye Girl, all the Indiana Jones flicks (I started off in college as an archaeology major), and anything with Cary Grant in it.

Other than reading, what do I like to do when I'm not working? I love to travel, shop and go to the movies and I try to do all 3 whenever possible. I also love decorating my home!

What is the most interesting fact about me? I can't think of anything other than the fact that I have traveled quite a bit and I've been to Mexico 9 times and Italy 3 times (soon to be 4)! A more interesting fact about me is that my cousin and her husband are rather well-known in Hollywood. My cousin, Marianne Leone, is in the Soprano's (she plays Christopher's mother on the show) and her husband, Chris Cooper, has acted in such films as The Patriot, The Horse Whisperer, Lonesome Dove, American Beauty, Seabiscuit, The Bourne Identity and he won an Oscar for best supporting actor for Adaptation!
