My Name: Margie Bou-Nassif What is my job at the library?
On Mondays, I work in Circulation. I'm responsible for checking books in
and checking books out to patrons, collecting fines, renewing books by
phone or in person, issuing library cards to new patrons, helping patrons
locate specific books and place them on hold, calling patrons to notify
them that the items they had requested are in, answering general questions
that patrons may have, such as: where can I find cookbooks, where do I
pick up the museum passes, or where is town hall etc. I'm responsible for
distributing the incoming mail, I type the labels that are placed on the
spine of the books, and I sometimes help stamp and cover books.
As a Page, I help empty the book drop each morning and once everything
has been checked in, I shelve the books either by the author's last name
(fiction books) or using the Dewey Decimal system (non-fiction books). I
basically work on the main and 2nd floors and when time permits, I help
shelve in the Children's Room.
I'm also responsible for two rows of shelf reading to make sure that
the books are in alphabetical order by the author's last name.
How long have I worked at the library? It's hard to believe, but its
been 6 years. Sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday. (And yes,
sometimes it does feel like forever). What is my favorite part of the job?
It gives me great satisfaction when I am able to help out a patron or even
my co-workers no matter what the problem or situation may be. I also like
the interaction with the patrons and it's nice when you see them outside
of the library environment and they recognize you and say hello to you.
What do I like to read? I would have to say that fiction is my favorite
type of reading, however, I do enjoy an occasional biography and have been
known to read non-fiction if the subject is of interest to me.
What is my favorite book? This is very hard as I have enjoyed many
books and authors, however, one book that comes to mind is "Montana
Sky" by Nora Roberts. I enjoyed it so much that I have been a devoted
Nora Roberts fan since then... sometimes it's hard to keep up with all her
books, especially as I try to read her older material. What is my favorite movie? This is another tough question... I have
enjoyed many movies over the years. For example: The Sound of Music was
the first movie I ever saw on the big screen, Cinderella (with Lesley Ann
Warren and Stuart Damon) was probably the first movie I saw on TV (love
those songs) these hold special memories for me. I also loved any movie
that had Elvis Presley in it especially "Viva Las Vegas".
Other than reading what do I like to do when I'm not working? I have
specific TV shows that I enjoy like Jeopardy, and any of the Law and Order
shows. I was devoted Who Wants To Be A Millionaire watcher and qualified a
few times but never got the "call" to be a contestant.
I enjoy spending time with my family. My girls and I enjoy shopping,
going to the movies and we all enjoy socializing with friends and family. We
enjoy family vacations and have gone to Lebanon, St. Michael (in the Azores,
Portugal), Disney World and Aruba and are looking forward to planning our
next family vacation.
What is the most interesting fact about me? I
would probably have to say that my household is very international. Its not
unusual to have a gathering and have 3 different languages spoken at the
same time.
I've also done extensive traveling
with friends. I've been to Spain, Portugal, Morocco (where my
cousin-in-law was ready to exchange me for 100 camels) and I also did a 1
week bus tour of 10 countries where I spent my Birthday having breakfast
in Holland, lunch in Belgium and dinner in Paris. I've also done tropical
islands such as Curacao, St. Thomas and Puerto Rico.
