Discovery Kids: Sandsational Science(grades K-4)
Wednesday, May 8 at 4:30 p.m.
Join us for ‘DISCOVERY KIDS’, our series of afterschool, interactive, enrichment programs for children grades K-4, which expose kids to the wonders of our scientific and natural world.
Join us at Sand-Sational Science! Mr. Steve is planning to bring SAND to this summer themed science program, but as usual, his experiments go awry and his Sand Collection is not quite right! It is up to the students to figure out how he can separate the sand from this mixture so they can all get down to trying out his Sand experiments. Once we do have sand, Mr. Steve will have a Beach Magic Trick (the “Disappearing Seashell”), a Sand Mystery (what are these sands made of?), and a Small Service for the Librarians (testing the library sand for “sand-bugs”…) that he will provide, all helping to show the many wondrous things that can be done with plain old sand!

Mr. Matt from Turtle Dance Music offers this exciting program which features wonderful classic and original children’s songs and tales about being under the sea! The show engages children with songs, comedy, bubbles, and music technology. We will also discuss why it is important to keep our oceans clean and how to protect our oceans from harmful things like microplastics. Kids will dance, sing, laugh, use their imaginations and connect with new friends. The show is crafted to be inclusive for all children, including children on the Autism Spectrum, and a great time for parents and teachers! “Turtle Dance Music helps kids come out of their shell!”

Treehouse Treasure Club: Buffalo Before Breakfast (grades K-4)

For this month’s program we will be reading, “Buffalo Before Breakfast” by Mary Pope Osborne. Travel with Jack and Annie as the Magic Tree House
takes them to the Great Plains where they learn about the life of the Lakota Indians.

Come to the library to read to Rudy, a certified reading therapy dog! Children, ages 5-9, will enjoy one-on-one time reading aloud to this gentle, comforting, 4-year old Black Lab as they practice their fluency and strengthen their confidence in reading.
Children may bring their own book from home or choose to read one from the library collection.
