"What is a Solar Eclipse & How Can I See It?" (grades 2-5)

On April 8, 2024, a large part of the United States will be able to see an incredible phenomenon, a total solar eclipse. An astronomical event like this is pretty special, as the next total solar eclipse visible from the US won’t happen again until 2044. Join NASA Solar System Ambassador, Caity Sullivan, to learn about how and why eclipses happen, and create your very own pinhole camera for safe eclipse viewing!

Children will enjoy one-on-one time reading aloud to this gentle, comforting, 5-year old black lab as they practice their fluency and strengthen their confidence in reading. Children may bring their own book from home or use one from the library.

“If You Give a Pig a Pancake,” by Laura Numeroff shows the silly scenerio of “if you give a pig a pancake, she’ll want some syrup to go with it. You’ll give her some of your favorite maple syrup. She’ll probably get all sticky, so she’ll want to take a bath.” You get the idea. Baths lead to bubbles, bubbles lead to rubber ducks, rubber ducks lead to wanting a trip to the farm…and the laughter continues from there!

We will also discuss why it is important to keep our oceans clean and how to protect our oceans from harmful things like microplastics. Kids will dance, sing, laugh, use their imaginations and connect with new friends.
