Reading with Rudy, the Therapy Dog (ages 5-9)

Wednesday, November 29 starting at 3:30 p.m.

Come to the library to read to Rudy, a certified reading therapy dog!  Kids will enjoy one-on-one time reading aloud to this gentle, comforting, 5-year old Black Lab as they practice their fluency and strengthen their confidence in reading.

Children may bring their own book from home or choose to read one from the library collection.

Online, required registration starts Monday, November 6 at 9:00 a.m. Space is limited.  Please choose one, 15-minute block for your child to read to Rudy.

3:30 p.m. – 3:45 p.m., 3:45 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., 4:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) Kids Playgroup

Thursday, November 30 at 9:30 a.m.

Join an educator from CFCE every Thursday (from September 14 – December 21) at 9:30 a.m. at The Billerica Public Library for this drop-in, STEM playgroup.

Each week we will explore a new STEM topic for Early Learners! Our activities are focused on kids from ages 3-5, but everyone from age 0-6 is welcome to attend with their Caregiver. STEM Skills are all heavily based in Literacy skills and our activities touch upon a broad range of developmental domains including; fine motor development, gross motor development, literacy development, language development, social emotional skills and much more.

Fracture a Fairytale -a creative dramatics adventure! (a Books Alive with Salem Five program)

Discovery Kids: Kaleidoscopes & Mirrors (ages 4-9)

Wednesday, December 6 at 4:30 p.m.

Join Steve Lechner of The Science Works for this exciting program on mirrors and kaleidoscopes!   Mirrors are some of the most magical devices ever created.  You can use them to see yourself, see yourself disappear, see TWO of yourself, see MANY copies of yourself, and so much more!  In this workshop we will investigate just what you can do with one, two, three, and even more mirrors.  We’ll test out Mr. Steve’s collection of Magic Moving Picture Machines (otherwise known as  Kaleidoscopes), and e en make your own to take home!

Fun with French: Escargot

For Grades 1-3

presented by the French National Honor Society at the Billerica Memorial High School

Bonjour Kids!  Come listen to the story of “Escargot” by Dashka Slater,  a story about a cute French snail and his laugh-out-loud adventures.  Kids will make a craft and learn some French as well!

Day Of The Dragon King - (magic Tree House (r)) By Mary Pope Osborne (paperback) : TargetFor this month’s program we will be reading, “Day of the Dragon King” by Mary Pope Osborne. Travel with Jack and Annie as the Magic Tree House takes them back two thousand years to ancient China where they must find the original copy of an old legend before the Imperial Library is burned down by the evil Dragon King.

Online, required registration starts Saturday, November 4 at 9:00 a.m. and participants can pick up the book starting that day as well. Read the book and on December 16 we will discuss it and enjoy some fun activities in the library. Participants will keep the book as well!  Click here to register for the event.
